Happy Guru Purnima Day

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः
गुरुरेव परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥१॥
Gurur-Brahmaa Gurur-Vissnnur-Gururdevo Maheshvarah |
Gurure[-I]va Param Brahma Tasmai Shrii-Gurave Namah ||1||

Meaning:
The Guru is Brahma, the Guru is Vishnu, the Guru Deva is Maheswara (Shiva),
The Guru is Verily the Para-Brahman (Supreme Brahman); Salutations to that Guru

Guru is energy, the medium through which jnana or knowledge flows to the shishya or disciple. Guru takes full responsibility of the shishya, monitors him every second. Guru literally carries the shishya on the journey of evolution. He is not someone who does sweet talk or makes arbit-rary promises to gain your support.A guru needs nothing from you; it is you who needs him. He is a mirror that will show you your true self and helps you elevate yourself, provided you want to rise On this occasion of Guru Purnima, the Guru Principle is said to be a thousand times more active on the day than on any other day. The word guru is derived from two words, gu and ru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness or ignorance, and ru denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore, a guru is one who removes the darkness of our ignorance. Gurus are believed by many to be the most necessary part of life. On this day, disciples offer puja (worship) or pay respect to their guru (spiritual guide). In addition to having religious importance, this festival has great importance for Indian academics and scholars.
Indian academics celebrate this day by thanking their teachers as well as remembering past teachers and scholars.

On this special day I want to give thanks to all my teachers and mentors who have inspired me on my path and to whom I owe a huge debt of gratitude. There is no greater gift that I know of than the one the teacher gives to the student when they inspire the student to uncover the potential within themselves.

Grade 2 & 3 - Rainy Day Celebration

Rainy Day

It was a rainy day when
I made a paper boat.
Wow! It went floating
But slowly started dripping
I made another lovely boat
When my father came wearing a raincoat!
He told me to get inside
As I was fully drenched.
Though my red dress was dirty
I enjoyed myself being naughty.
The breeze and rain made me cool
When I placed the boat on the roadside pool.

Grade 6 - Zentangles #001

Students first attempt for Colourful Zentangles

“The Zentangle Method is an easy to learn, fun and relaxing way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.”
The Zentangle art form and method was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Zentangle® is a registered trademark of Zentangle, Inc. You can learn much more at zentangle.com and from taking a class with a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT).
A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle.

Zentangle or Doodle?
Often people new to Zentangle will say, “I’ve doodled all my life, I never knew it had a name.” With all due respect, Zentangle is not doodling though the outcome may look the same. What is the difference between doodling and Zentangle?
Zentangle is a form of artistic meditation through a very specific Method of deliberate intention that produces non-objective drawings composed of patterns (tangles) that can be viewed from all four sides. Zentangle is about process, not outcome.
Zentangles do not contain recognizable objects and there is no “right side up”. The Zentangle method is very focused and mindful, whereas doodling is generally something you do with your hands while your thoughts are occupied with something else. It’s easy to confuse the outcome of Zentangle with doodling, but they are quite different processes.
Likewise, the tangle patterns composing a Zentangle do not represent a natural or actual object, figure, or scene.

Every Child is an Artist

I think Pablo Picasso was really right with his statement. I think, we as adults, are rarely able to be creative as children or at least not creative as they are in their way. This is why I think that we can learn so many things from our children!

As we grow we get embarrassed to show own artwork. We judge ourselves more and worry about what others are thinking more. Arts often are sidelined these days in an educational landscape of soaring expenses and standardized exams.

It made share the message that art is such an important part of learning, everyday, and best not left for another day.
